End of Life Basics

Guidance or referral to appropriate professionals who handle DNR (Do Not Resuscitate), MAID (Medical Aid in Dying), Advanced Care Directives, Wills/Trusts, Five Wishes, Home Health Aid or Housing and other appropriate resources.

MAID

Medical Aid in Dying/California End Of Life Option Act

Provide support and advocacy when considering or choosing MAID. supporting you, your family and friends while going through this process. Assisting with the process, planning and preparation, which may include, help with mixing the medications and provide support on the day of as well as bereavement support to family or friends afterwards.

Life Review

Near the end of their life many will begin reflection on their life; wanting to share stories, including the good and difficult times, regrets, the need to forgive or anything that has been important or memorable for them. The intention of this time together will hopefully bring closure and peace.

Legacy Work

Legacy is a gift from one person to others about their family history, what matters most and how they want to be remembered. This process can include albums or scrapbooks, paintings/artwork, storybooks, letters or a family tree, to name a few.

End Of Life Companionship

There may be times when a doula/companion can provide an unbiased and neutral space for the dying, which can help ease tension and anxiety, and offer respite. It could be a walk, watching a movie, playing a game or offering a loving, caring presence. The client may want support in reaching out to family and friends.

Sitting Vigil

This is being with the client in their final days and hours of life, as the end of life is imminent. At this time, the client may have specific instructions as to what they would like (type of music, last rites, lighting/candles or touch to name a few). The doula follows their instructions, guides family and friends on how they can be present and helps the client feel they are not alone.

After the Passing

Even with advanced preparation, there is much to do after someone has passed away. The doula will provide general assistance as needed. This may include calling family members/friends, the funeral home, assisting with the celebration of life or any other tradition the client has requested. There may also be a need for bereavement support referrals.

Fees

Each client has unique needs and wishes as they plan this time in their life. Fees will be based on the client’s individual needs and desires. Based on client needs, package discounts may be available.
